| There are
pretty coastlines like those of Southern California,
Texas and North Carolina, and there are spectacular
coastlines like those in Oregon, Washington, the
Mediterranean and Chili.
The Astoria Sunday Drive takes you
from the suburbs of Portland Oregon through the
Coastal Range, into quaint ocean side resort towns
like
Seaside and the fishing town of
Astoria. It visits many of the historic
sites and destinations of eighteenth- nineteenth
century explorers Lewis and Clark.
Once leaving Astoria you'll
accompany North America's second largest river, the
Columbia as it winds toward Portland. You'll
pass through dozens of small towns where mining,
logging and farming are a way of life. At times
you'll think you are traveling through the Blue
Mountains of West Virginia, but only until you see
massive Mt. St. Helens gracing the horizon. TOP
This is a full day trip from
Portland. You'll want to leave time for shopping
in Seaside, a picnic lunch on Sunset Beach and a trip
to the top of the Astoria Column at sunset. TOP
Golf enthusiasts can play a round adjacent to the
Pacific Ocean at Seaside's public golf course.
