Miracle Mile
Wilshire Boulevard between Fairfax and La Brea Avenues, LA

If you are looking for the perfect destination in Los Angeles to experience culture, history and night life, the Miracle Mile is the perfect venue to provide a day of fun and a night of exciting entertainment.

The mile long stretch on Wilshire Boulevard between Fairfax and La Brea Avenues received its name in the 1920's.  During this time it was settled and inhabited by Jewish Immigrants who founded the banking industry on the Mile and worked financing miracles.  Later, the Tar Pits were discovered and archeologists hit the mother load of intact skeletal remains including Saber Tooth Tigers, wolves and even a human being.   Excavation is still ongoing and can be viewed at the museum.  Kids absolutely love visiting the Tar Pits and there are several family friendly restaurants on the Mile.

One of the highlights of the Miracle Mile is the World Famous La Brea Tar Pits.  This attraction is a favorite of both children and adults.

The El Rey theater, newly renovated, was one of the first night club venues to infuse the Miracle Mile during the 1990's revitalization.

Auto buffs can explore vintage cars at the Petersen Automotive Museum and art enthusiasts will revel in a day at LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) or one of the visiting exhibits like Van Gogh in the adjacent event's building, (advanced tickets are generally required for special exhibits).

After nine PM, the mood on the Mile switches from educational to entertainment.  Musical acts and other forms of entertainment play nightly at the El Rey. Or, if you prefer live Salsa, dance the night away at the Conga Room or club hop among the other entertainment venues and multiple night clubs along the Miracle Mile Strip.

Hancock Park and its beautiful manicured grounds surrounding the La Brea Tar Pits is the perfect picnic place.  On Friday afternoons from 5 PM to 8 PM year around, free live Jazz music and no host beer and wine are available in the LACMA courtyard.  You can bring children to this. This happy hour event can attract over 500 people any given Friday.

For fine dining enthusiasts, some LA's best restaurants, (all highly recommended) are less than a mile away on La Brea Avenue including Sonora Café (High Class Authentic Mexican Food), Campanile's and Cá Brea (Upscale Italian Food).  Beverly Hills is just two miles to the west and includes such landmark restaurants as The Ivy (California Cuisine) on Robertson, Spago (Wolfgang Puck's flagship restaurant) on Canon, and our favorite romantic getaway, Le Colonial (French Vietnamese and California Cuisine) off Beverly Boulevard. Reservations are recommended for all restaurants mentioned and all parking is valet.

Miracle Mile is also home to many well known companies including Spelling Productions, Variety Magazine, E! Entertainment Television and The Screen Actors Guild.   Keep you're eyes open.  You just might see a star.

Warnings:  Miracle Mile is a very upscale singles community. It is also very high in car theft (though other crimes are rare).  We strongly recommend using one of the fee paid lots, rather than parking on the streets if at all possible, especially if you plan to stay in the area past nine o'clock at night.

Looking East on Wilshire from Fairfax Blvd at the beginning of the Miracle Mile.  This first 1/2 Mile is also known as Museum Row and is the location where you will find LA County's top collections of Art, Nostalgia and Cars.
