How Well Do You Know Your Floral Etiquette?
By LD Lewis

For centuries different plants, fruits and flowers have held special meanings and allowed people to communicate without saying a word.  In ancient and medieval times, some where said to have powers and could prevent a woman from being raped, ward off evil spirits and protect soldiers or travelers on the road.

You can use flowers, plants and fruit to communicate your feelings intentions and wishes without saying a word!

Others were used as warnings.  Black Mulberry placed on a person's stoop signals death is coming.  Lilacs given to a lover are a stern warning that the relationship is passionless.  The Burdock Berry: Leave me alone and don't touch me.

Lovers have used flowers as symbols of endearment, signals and displeasure.  The Bachelor Button signifies the person who wears it is both loved and wanted.  The Shepherd's Purse is the ultimate gift to a woman from a man as it says "Everything that I am and everything that I own I give to you". The Scarlet Pimpernel when sent or displayed is used to communicate to a lover the intent of a clandestine meeting that night.  The Yellow Rose is a solid indication of jealousy and suspicion.  On May first, the French give Lilies of the Valley to signify good luck.

See how many of these questions you can answer correctly.  You may be surprised by the real meaning of the flowers you send! TOP
