My son is
currently at Ft. Lewis, WA - just transferred there with his family. He
is an MP and re-upped for dog school, did that and was stationed at
Lackland AFB, even though he was Army. He trained dogs foe 2 1/2 yrs.
Took the kennel master course. Got to Ft. Lewis and a Sgt Major decided
he needed a warm body to occupy a slot at Battalion S-3 level, so now he
is behind a desk, hates it. He is in the process of buying gear and the
family trying to help him because he will be going to Iraq with poor
quality gear. Or Gear that is not enough protection or that makes it
easier for him to survive. He does not mind going that is his job, but
he would rather go in the capacity he was trained for. Talk about waste
of money for training him as a dog handler and dog trainer. ??? Since
when do they work someone with specialized training out of their MOS? I
am hopping mad about it. He has tried every command avenue open to him
with no avail. They are more concerned about getting a new battalion
together to go to Iraq. They may put him in a slot for a secretarial
type position. Approving forms for soldiers to go to school. Any e-3 on
up can do that. It is because he is an E-6 that they snagged him. I was
in the Army also, but I never worked out of my MOS. I worked different
levels of it. Thanks for listening.
