Mail
it to his or her office or to the house. A note on the box
should tell them to open only inside. Of course, that is
because when the box is opened the balloons will rise and
hearts will soar.
Christmas In July
Most
people have a love/hate relationship with Christmas.
They love the food. Hate the weight gain. Love giving
presents. Hate the crowds. Love the music. Hate having six
weeks of it. Love the true meaning. Hate the commercialism
that seems to overshadow it.
There is a way to have the best of Christmas and leave the
rest behind. Celebrate it in July.
I'm not suggesting giving up the late December festivities but
if your mate really loves Christmas, surprise them with a one
night bonus celebration in the middle of Summer.
If possible, drag out the artificial tree while your love is
away for the day or weekend and decorate it. If you always get
a real one, go to a nursery and find a small potted evergreen
to light up.
Bake a some of your love's favorite holiday goodies. Put a few
presents under the tree. Turn the air conditioner on high and
light a crackling fire in the fireplace while listening to
your favorite Christmas tunes.
Of course you can't forget the eggnog. Most stores don't carry
it in the summer so you will have to make it from scratch.
Here's one recipe.
RECIPE FOR EGGNOG
1 dozen Medium
Eggs
1 cup Sugar
1 ½ quarts Milk
1 pint Heavy Cream, whipped
Powdered nutmeg
Up to 750-ml of brandy or rum if desired
Separate eggs, beat yolks in large serving bowl, adding sugar
while beating. Stir in milk and cream. If using alcohol,
slowing add and then refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Before
serving, whip egg whites stiff. Mix into eggnog, dust with
nutmeg.
And for my readers in the Southern Hemisphere, maybe for once
you can have a white Christmas!
